Abstract:

Öz Prof. Dr. Orhan Okay, 1959 yılının Ocak ayında girdiği asistanlık sınavından sonra Atatürk Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümünde göreve başlamış, doktorasını bu bölümde Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kaplan’ın yönetiminde tamamlamıştır. Yine bu bölümde doçent olmuş, daha sonra profesörlük kadrosuna atanmıştır. Okay, Erzurum’da geçirdiği 36 yıl içinde ve buradan ayrıldıktan sonra çeşitli konuşma ve yazılarında Erzurum’la ilgili gözlem ve değerlendirmelerini ortaya koymuştur. Bu değerlendirmelerin bir kısmı, Osmanlı döneminde yaşamış olan Erzurumlu bilim adamı ve şairlerle ilgilidir. Halk hayatıyla ilgili gözlemlerinin büyük bir kısmı 1959’u takip eden yıllara aittir. Okay, yazılarında yer yer 36 yıl içinde müşahede ettiği kültürel ve sosyal değişmeleri de dikkatlere sunar. Orhan Okay’a göre 1959’u takip eden yıllarda Erzurum, geleneksel yaşam tarzının devam ettiği küçük bir Osmanlı şehri görünümündedir. Son yüz yıl içinde yaşanan savaşların ve göçlerin ortaya çıkardığı tahribattan henüz kurtulamamıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Orhan Okay, Erzurum, edebiyat Abstract Prof. Dr. Orhan Okay came into office as an assistant in January 1959 in the department of Turkish Language and Literature at Faculty of Letters, Atatürk University and completed his PhD in the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kaplan. Okay became an Associate Professor and then a Professor in the same department. Okay wrote and explained his observations and evaluations about Erzurum in his various talks and writings during the period of his 36 years in Erzurum and after he left Erzurum. Some part of his evaluations is about the man of letters and poets lived in Erzurum during the Ottoman period. Most part of his observations about folk life belongs to the years following 1959. Okay partly presents the social and cultural changes he observed during those 36 years in Erzurum to the attention. To Orhan Okay, Erzurum had an outlook of a small Ottoman city where the traditional life style continued in the following years of 1959.
