Son dönemde bilim ve teknolojideki ilerlemelerin insanlık açısından kaygı uyandırıcı boyutlara ulaşması, insan haklarında yeni yaklaşımları ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu yaklaşımlar, her ne kadar hukuki bir kesinliğe ulaşmasa da dördüncü kuşak insan haklarında bir araya gelmektedir. Biyo-etik haklar, siber uzay hakkı, kişisel verilerin korunması hakkı gibi hak kategorileri dördüncü kuşak insan hakları arasında değerlendirilmektedir. Özellikle kişisel verilerin korunması, çok daha kapsayıcı ve yaygın bir konu olduğundan insan hakları literatüründe öne çıkan bir vurgudur. Kişisel verilerin korunması hakkına yönelik en önemli tehditlerden biri, günden güne kullanımı artan büyük veri temasıdır. Büyük veri gerek kamu gerekse de özel kurum ve kuruluşlarda “dijital devlet” bağlamında yaygın bir araç haline gelirken, sosyolojiden siyaset ve sosyal hizmete kadar sosyal bilimlerin birçok alanında genişleyen bir metodoloji halini almaktadır. Yüksek bir temsil gücüne sahip olması, homojenleşmiş gruplara odaklanması gibi nedenlerle tercih edilen büyük veri çalışmalarında, kişisel verilerin korunmasının ne denli gözetildiği ayrı bir tartışma konusudur. Bu noktada araştırmacıların etik sorumluluklarını hem araştırma gruplarının korunması hem de çalışmalarını çeşitli odakların çıkarlarına hizmet edecek şekilde karakterize etmemesi doğrultusunda genişletmesi beklenmektedir. Diğer taraftan araştırma grupları da kişisel verilerinin hangi amaçlarla kimler tarafından kullanılacağı bağlamında kendilerinin de mesuliyet sahibi olduğunun farkında olmalıdırlar. Bunların doğrultusunda bu çalışma, sosyal bilimlerin farklı alanlarındaki büyük veri çalışmalarının kişisel verilerin korunması odağında yarattığı açmazları değerlendirmektedir.
In recent years, the advances in science and technology have reached an alarming dimension in terms of humanity and have revealed new approaches to human rights. These approaches, although they do not reach legal certainty, are united in the fourth generation of human rights. Categories of rights such as bioethical rights, cyber space rights, the right to the protection of personal data are ranked among the fourth generation human rights. In particular, the protection of personal data is a highlight in human rights literature, as it is a much more comprehensive and widespread topic. One of the most important threats to the right to protection of personal data is the big data theme that increases its use from day to day. While big data becomes a widespread tool in the context of "digital state" in both public and private institutions and organizations, it becomes a methodology that expands in many areas of social sciences, from sociology to politics and social service. Having a high representative power in big data studies, preferred for reasons such as focusing on homogeneous groups, is a separate topic of debate on how much the protection of personal data is monitored. At this point, the researchers are expected to expand their ethical responsibilities to protect both the research groups and not characterize their work in such a way that will serve the interests of various centres. On the other hand, research groups must also be aware of the contents for which the personal data will be used by who they are responsible for. According to them, this study evaluates the disadvantages that large data studies in different fields of social sciences create in the focus of the protection of personal data.
