Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine secondary school students' attitudes towards school and success-purpose variables in terms of various variables, and to determine the level of predicting achievement-goal orientations of students' attitudes towards school. The sample group of the research consists of 762 high school students, 392 girls and 370 boys, studying in the city center of Sivas in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. “Attitude Scale Towards School” and “Achievement Goal Orientations Scale” were used to obtain the research data. Descriptive and normality analyses, independent samples t-test, one way ANOVA, Tukey and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. In the findings obtained, it was determined that the students' attitudes towards school differed significantly according to all the variables of the research. In addition, the change in the sub-dimensions of the scale of attitude towards school explains about 25.6% in learning goal orientation, 24.6% in performance/approach goal orientation, and 18.7% in performance/avoidance goal orientation.
