Abstract The objective of this study was to understand the discursive production of PLACAR magazine on women's football in Brazil and, after this analysis, to produce knowledge that can be used to foster the debate on gender relations in body practices during Physical Education in High School. Based on a documentary research, in 1017 periodicals of PLACAR magazine, located in the library of the Museum of Football in São Paulo, a content analysis was carried out to identify the units of meaning produced about women's football. Discursive production about women in football is strongly marked by prohibition and discrimination in their past. Despite this, thanks to countless athletes and feminist ideals, the players are gradually gaining space and respect. This debate can be fostered in Physical Education classes from the results of this research.
