Concepts has a key role to determine and solve the problems. As a term, “Social capital” has been densely in the arguments on the problems encountered by social sciences on economical, political and social fields through the last quarter of the century. This article focuses on the term “social capital” in sociological perspective instead of the economical and political perspectives which are preferred mostly. In the article, firstly, history, definition of the term, the meaning of the term within the other capitals, types of the social capital, ideas on surveying the term have been defined in general terms. Therefore, the basis of the social capital, how it's shaped in which social conditions, and its socially positive and negative effects have been emphasized.
