Until recently, posts were made of metal and they commonly used because of their superior physical properties. Along with demand for esthetic restorations has increased, metalfree materials with physical properties similar to those of dentin has become a major objective in dentistry. The tooth-colored posts have improved the esthetics of teeth restored with posts and cores. Esthetic posts made of either reinforced resins or strength ceramic. Several types of fiber reinforced posts such as quartz, glass, polyethylene, carbon, are currently available. Selection of an appropriate post-core system from the wide variety of available systems may lead to a dilemma for clinicians. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to review some informations about post systems and assist the selection of the post-core assembly.
