Abstract:

Each city has an identity from its historical history and formed in a long process. This identity consists of the combination of qualities that reflect the natural and cultural characteristics of the city, distinguishing it from other cities. The continuity of the city identity is possible only by the preservation and development of the components that form the city identity. This research was carried out with the aim of creating a landmark design to be made with the stone painting art in accordance with the city identity in the Iskele Square located in the centre of Çanakkale. In the framework of the research, literary work, field work and stone painting arts experts and digital individual interviews were evaluated. According to the research, the design for a new landmark is proposed to be made with the art of stone painting, to reflect the city’s identity, to provide a visual contribution to the city and to be remembered by everyone as a memory.
