Abstract:

Purpose: Covid-19 pandemic has caused disruptions in the creation of surgical programs in the surgical clinics. Therefore, the patient’s profile has changed and the income has decreased. This study aims to provide outcomes for future periods by comparing the three-month Covid pandemic period of 2020 to the same period of 2019. Instruments and Methods: Patients treated in the General Surgery Clinic in March, April and May of 2019 and 2020 in our Education and Research Hospital were drawn out of the data recording system, with demographic characteristics, types of surgical initiatives, malign/benign events, deposit time, mortality and reimbursement amounts assessed. The results of the study looked at whether there were statistically significant differences between the groups of quantum and qualitative variables. 947 cases were in 2019 and 165 were in 2020. The female and male ratio in 2019 and 2020 was 1/1.04 and 1/1.08 respectively. The average age for 2019 was 50.57, for 2020 was 47.59 (p=0.041). The number of elective surgeries, which was 80 per cent in 2019, reached 34.5 per cent in 2020 (p=0,000) In the same period the malign/benign ratio was 1/10.9 and 1/3.1. The duration of stay in the hospital was 3.01 and 5.92 days respectively. The treatment resulted in significant decrease in patients resulting in healing. The result: Pandemics cause delays in scheduled stages and change the patient’s profile. Therefore, we consider that the treatment of elective patients in the pandemic process will not be delayed and therefore the identification of hospitals that will provide non-pandemic services to prevent economic losses will be injured.
