Abstract:

The use of materials in religious education makes learning more effective and permanent. In particular, audio/visual materials appeal to many senses of the interlocutor by making the religious content more concrete, which is mostly abstract. It is thought that audio-visual materials are functional in the process of developing religious knowledge, emotion and attitude, therefore, audio-visual media can be used as a material in religious education. In this sense, it is seen that there are broadcastings on different beliefs in the audio/visual media of Turkey. This research, which we aim to reveal the material value of audio-visual media in religious education, is a qualitative study on the program called People and Faiths broadcast on TRT documentary channel. Research findings are presented under three main themes as respecting different beliefs, acquiring knowledge about different beliefs, discovering and developing one's own belief, in line with the purposes of religious education put forward by Skeie. As a result of the research, it has been concluded that the publication named People and Beliefs, which is broadcast on TRT Documentary channel and deals with different beliefs, is suitable for the purposes of religious education determined by Skeie and can be used as a teaching material in formal religious education.
