The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the effects of salivary flow rate, buffering capacity, amounts of Streptococci and Lactobacilli in the oral cavity on the DMFT and DMFS indices. Randomly selected 20 man, 44 women, totally 64 patients who applied Department of Operative Dentistry were clinically examined. Patients’ decayed, missing and filled teeth and surfaces were examined clinically. Plaque indices examined by Silness & Löe plaque indices. The salivary tests were made in the department of microbiology. Various oral hygiene habits, nutrition habits, frequency and the reason for going to dentist were asked according to a special questionnaire. We conclude that the amount of Lactobacilli is positively correlated to the DMFT indices. Age, sex, education level, oral hygiene habits, using prosthetics and having orthodontic treatment is related with DMFT indices.
