Abstract:

The child interacts primarily with family members from an early age and then communicates and interacts with many people in the social environment throughout the pre-school period. The social support provided to the child is reinforced by pre-school education. In addition to social support, it is also necessary for children to acquire various skills for primary school education after pre-school education. In these skills, social competence and readiness skills are important in terms of the child's academic success and social cohesion in later periods. Within this context, the aim of this study is to examine of pre-school education on the social behavior and readiness skills of primary school students. Relational screening model in quantitative research methods from descriptive screening model was used in the study. The sample of the study was determined by simple random sampling method, and the sample group consisted of 249 primary school 1st grade students. The data of the study was collected in the 2016-2017 academic year. In the collection of data, "Personal information form" was used to obtain students' demographic information, "School social behavior scale" was used to measure their social competence and "Primary school readiness scale" to measure their readiness skills. SPSS 20 software was used for the analysis of the data. Since the data were not normally distributed, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed in the analysis of the data In order to determine the relationship between the variables, Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used. As a result of the study, it was observed that the pre-school education had a significant difference on the social behavior and school readiness of primary school 1st grade students. There was a positive and moderate correlation between social competence and readiness skills of primary school 1st grade students. As a result of the research, the findings were discussed in the light of related researches and literature, and some suggestions were made.
