Bu araştırmanın amacı, 4Mat öğretim modelinin ortaokul 7. sınıf matematik dersine ait oran ve orantı konularının öğretiminde öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına ve öğrenmenin kalıcılığına etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada öntest sontest kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen modeli uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın deney ve kontrol gruplarını Türkiye’nin güneyindeki bir ilinde bulunan bir devlet ortaokulunda öğrenim gören 7. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Deney grubu 20 öğrenci ile oluşmakta iken kontrol grubu ise 18 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Oran ve orantı konusu deney grubunda 4MAT öğretim modeli yardımı ile işlenmiştir. Kontrol grubunda ise konuyu herhangi bir özel öğretim yöntemi kullanılmaksızın öğretim programına uygun bir şekilde öğretmen merkezli olarak bir öğretim gerçekleşmiştir. Bu çalışmada veri toplamak için araştırmacı tarafından çoktan seçmeli 20 soruluk bir başarı testi oluşturulmuştur. Testi eğitimlerden önce ön-test, eğitimler bittikten sonra son-test ve son-testten yaklaşık bir ay sonra da kalıcılık testi olarak gruplara uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen nicel verilerin analizleri t-testi ile bulunmuştur. Nicel verilere göre deney grubunun başarı ortalaması kontrol grubuna göre akademik olarak daha başarılı olmasının yanında bilgilerin daha kalıcı olduğu görülmüştür. Bu araştırma sonucunda ise matematik dersinin diğer konularına da 4Mat öğretim modeli uygulanabilir, 4Mat öğretim modeli hem öğretmenlere hizmet içi eğitim verilecek şekilde hem de öğretmen adaylarına lisans düzeyinde ders konusu olarak bu model öğretilebilir.
The aim of this research is to examine the effect of the 4Mat teaching model on the academic achievement and permanence of learning in the teaching of ratio and proportion subjects in the 7th grade mathematics course of secondary school. In the research, quasi-experimental design with pretest posttest control group was applied. The experimental and control groups of the research consist of 7th grade students studying in a state secondary school in a province in the south of Turkey. While the experimental group consisted of 20 students, the control group consisted of 18 students. The subject of ratio and proportion was taught in the experimental group with the help of the 4MAT teaching model. In the control group, a teacher-centered teaching was carried out in accordance with the curriculum without using any special teaching method. In this study, an achievement test of 20 multiple choice questions was created by the researcher to collect data. The test was administered to the groups as a pre-test before the training, post-test after the training, and a retention test approximately one month after the post-test. The analyzes of the quantitative data obtained in the research were found with the t-test. According to the quantitative data, the average achievement of the experimental group was found to be academically more successful than the control group, and the information was more permanent. As a result of this research, the 4Mat teaching model can be applied to other subjects of the mathematics course, the 4Mat teaching model can be taught both as in-service training to teachers and as an undergraduate course subject to teacher candidates.
