Abstract:

Solid wastes have been one of the major problems through all over the world. One of these problems is the environmental deterioration of rubber from scrap automobile tires. Therefore, it is thought that the scrap automobiletire rubber could be used in concrete technology. In this manner, the properties of mortars produced with scrap automobile tire (SAT) are investigated. In the experimental study, three different types of cement, high performance hyperplasticizer and 2-4 mm sized SAT have been used. SAT aggregate have replaced sand at the ratios of 10, 20, 30 and 40 % by volume. These mortar specimens have been subjected to physical and mechanical tests at the end of 28thday. When the test results are compared, the first general important result can be said as that the test results of the specimens produced with CEM II/A-L 42.5R containing 10 % SAT are greater than the test results of other specimens produced with SAT
