Abstract:

Abstract Background: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of family physicians who provide primary health care services in the province of Adana. Materials and Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study was 213 family physicians working in Yüreğir and Çukurova district of Adana Province. Between 9 October 2017 and 10 November 2017, 178 family physicians were interviewed face-to-face. The questionnaire included sociodemographic information of physicians, education and behaviors related to rational drug use. Data were calculated in frequency and percentage. Results: In this study, the average age of family physicians was calculated as 46.71±8.70, and the average working time was 21.85±8.60 years. 94.9% of family physicians stated that they received training on rational drug use and 59.6% stated that they were affected by the presentation of drug represantives. According to 49.7% of the physicians, the information given to the patient about the drugs and treatment process is sufficient. The most important criterion in the drug writing is the safety of the drug with 97.2%, the most utilized resource is the phone applications and the internet with 47.2%, followed by Vademecum with 46.6%. Conclusion: All physicians must have received effective training on medical medicine in medical schools, and trainings must be repeated after graduation. The strengthening of communication between the patient and the physician is the one of most important factor for treatment compliance.
