Abstract:

In this article, ikhtisar (abbreviation) activity that started after tadwin(compilation) of Islamic sciences and the mukhtasar (concise) literature that emerged as a result of this activity were discussed in the context of Islamic law; Considering the activities performed in the ikhtisar of the fiqh, a definition has been tried to be brought to the ikhtisar and the mukhtasar. Ikhtisar means summarizing and expressing something briefly in the dictionary definition. It is used in different meanings according to the context it is referred to as a term. When used in relation to telif (writing) and ikhtisar, it means a scientific activity and a concise method of writing. Ikhtisar expresses the general nature of the works that emerged as a result of this activity. The authors, who refer to ikhtisar as a method of writing, associate it with the other two methods of writing: itnab (itale, tatvil, bast) and tawassut. They attribute a meaning to each of these methods in the form of dealing with a subject in a broad, intermediate, and concise manner. Although such a definition expresses a fact depending on the emergence of works at different levels in the literature, it is neither comprehensive nor informative about the nature of ikhtisar. The ikhtisar of fiqh took place within a certain period and includes many scientific activities. For this reason, it was thought that it would be more accurate to define the ikhtisar and the mukhtasar, taking into account the issue in question. In the examination conducted, it was concluded that ikhtisar was sometimes based on one or more works, and sometimes it did not depend on a particular work. However, this did not have much importance in terms of the ikhtisar of fiqh. It was observed that the most valuable aspect in this regard was the activities performed while writing the mukhtasar work. It was concluded that defining ikhtisar and mukhtasar by considering the activities they contain, rather than focusing on the style, content, or the way the concise is written, would be more comprehensive and explanatory.
