Family and community partnership in the education of the youth enable the youth to succeed in academic life and in later life. Regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, show improved behavior, graduate and go on to higher education. Moreover, parental involvement brings about an improvement in both cognitive and affective areas of educational performance such as attitude, morale, and self-esteem. This paper presents Joyce Epstein’s framework for different types of parental involvement in education. The paper elaborates strategies such as parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making and collaborating with the larger community.
