İslam’a ait bir kısım hükümlerin helalliği, bir kısımların haramlığı konusunda şüphe yoktur. Bir kısım hükümlerin ise ilk asırdan beri ihtilafı sürmektedir. Müzik bu konulardan biri olup onunla ilişkili olan konularda da hiçbir zaman ittifak edilmemiştir. Kimileri müziğe eldeki delillerden yola çıkarak haram, kimileri mübah, kimileri mekruh, kimileri de bazı şartlarla helal olabileceğini savunmuştur. Bu konudaki ihtilaf da biteceğe benzemiyor. Müellifin amacı da bu konudaki tartışmaları bitirmek de değildir. Eser, müziği tarihiyle, felsefesiyle, dini tartışmasıyla ve makaleleriyle ele çok yönlü bir çalışmadır. Kitap okunduğunda Pehlül Düzenli’nin kendisinden sonraki araştırmacının önünü açan bir çalışma yaptığı görülecektir.
