Abstract:

This research was carried out with the aim of identifying the degree of biosecurity and animal welfare in the livestock enterprises of Sanlıurfa, identifying related problems and presenting new recommendations for the solution of problems. The survey used data from 2013 from 66 registered in the "TÜRKVET" system in the province of Shanlıurfa. Only large enterprises that produce food and milk throughout the province of Sanlıurfa are scheduled to survey the work. In the survey form, 29 characteristics of the business and animals were identified, based on these characteristics, the level of biosecurity and animal welfare was tried to be identified. In 62.1 percent of these enterprises, milk livestock and 37.9 percent of food livestock was established. 17.5 percent of the firms are closed and 82.5 percent are semi-open. In 40.9% of there are administrative buildings, and in 59.1% there is no building or room where the business is managed. In 18.2% of with administrative buildings have security cameras at the entrance. The number of employees in the field of education is 22.7%. The rate of enterprise-registered cultivators is 59.1%. Veterinary health expenses were estimated at 5.2% in dairy livestock, while 3.7% in food livestock. In the surveyed enterprises, the annual mortality rate varies between 5% and 20%. As a result, it has been observed that farmers in Sanlıurfa do not receive sufficient technical knowledge and consultancy services on the issues of biosecurity and animal welfare, they have built the trees according to the modern system but continue to cultivate by traditional methods. It is important that private or official veterinarians take business visits in order to awareness farmers in the biosecurity and animal welfare issues.
