The European Union, which established on the remnants of II. World War, has made a remarable progress within the context of ‘deepening and widening process’. It is not only the Central and Eastern European countries desired to become become part of such a gigantic institution, but Turkey. Therefore, not past in the past but today Turkey aims to integrate with the EU in order to catch up with the Western civilization, which said to be symbolized modernity. However, it is a question mark how how Turkey will be integrated into the EU that is deeply preoccupied with the depening and widening process. Whatsoever, the current debates are directly focused on the enlargement fatigue, which fades away Turkey’s hopes about the membership. The aim of this study is to examine the enlargement policy, with an emphasis placed on the future enlargement prospects following the analysis of Turkey-EU relations in historical context.
