Abstract:

Purpose: Treatment with parankymic protective surgical methods of lung hidative cystis is considered a good treatment option in both children and adults. However, a very few pediatric studies have been published during this period. Our goal is to review the results in pediatric patients and to evaluate the effectiveness of parankim protection methods. Methods: This study included 75 patients under the age of 16 who were operated between 2008 and 2019 due to pulmonary hidatic cysts (the average age of 8.4 ± 3.4 years). Results: A total of 108 cysts found in different areas of the lungs have been removed from the patients. The average cyst size of patients is 6.75 ± 2.4 cm. 12 (%16) of patients were diagnosed with a huge cyst. In one patient after surgery, bleeding was observed, in the other patient, broncho-opleural fistule. In four patients, mortality was not observed. The result: Due to the structural properties of the lungs in childhood, the proportion of giant hidative cysts is higher than adults. If this situation takes the mind of radical approaches such as lobectomy in hydrated cyst surgery, we have shown that parankymic protective methods show effective results.
