Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to reveal the relationship between the perceptions of mathematical self-sufficiency and academic achievements of students studying at the Department of Primary Mathematics Teaching and to study the perceptions of mathematical self-sufficiency of students from a view of some variables. The study included 181 students who studied at the Gazi Education Faculty in the 2006-2007 teaching year. The study used the measurement of the perception of self-sufficiency against mathematics and the personal information form, the Pearson Moment's collapse correlation ratio was calculated on the data, the t test and the one-way variance analysis were applied. A meaningful relationship between the perceptions of the students’ mathematical self-sufficiency and their academic achievements in research (r=0. 492) found that the perceptions of self-sufficiency of students in mathematics show significant differences according to gender, father's educational level, teaching form and the type of high school graduated.
