Food consumption of pregnant adolescents: a narrative review

Introduction: Pregnancy is a period in which the woman is vulnerable due to changes that occur in her body, which can be physiological and metabolic such as increased blood volume, hormonal increase, adjustment of renal, hepatic and pulmonary functions and the preparation for lactation. For these reasons, it is necessary to adapt the diet of pregnant adolescents. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the food consumption of pregnant adolescents. Materials and Methods: A search was carried out through the sources constituted by the electronic resources in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), and in the Electronic Library Scientific Electronic Library On-line (SciELO ), and in Google academic being published from 2000 to 2022. Results: In the LILACS Search Site, 10 articles were found. In (SciELO) 20 articles were found. And on Google academic, 20 articles were also found. Of the 50 articles searched in the literature, only 12 articles were excluded, and 38 articles were included for the eventual search. Among the studies included, 30 of the articles had a cross-sectional study, 7 articles were theoretical in approach, and 1 was a field study.Conclusion:Therefore, this study investigated the food consumption of pregnant adolescents, and it is concluded that there was an increase in the consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods, such as cereals, meats, cookies, snacks, sausages, sweets, sugary drinks, refined carbohydrates, fats and sodium . And there was a low consumption of minimally processed and in natura foods such as fruits, vegetables and greens.
