Abstract:

As a result of international migration movements, a number of problems between the immigrants and the citizens of the receiving country come into the picture. Especially recently (2011), many Syrian people had to migrate to other countries because of the civil war in Syria. Turkey, also, is one of the receiving countries. Actually, Turkey is in the position of being transit country, yet the civil war in Syria necessitates Turkey to determine a refugee policy and to apply it. This study aims to make a sociological analysis about the film “The More”, whose scenarist is Hakan Günday, directed by Onur Saylak. This film has the characteristic of being the first film on this issue in Turkey. In the study, the images and basic discourses, that are identified by aiming to understand the attitudes and behaviors of Turkish people towards refugees and to examine how they are stigmatized, are analysed with a critical sociological perspective.
