Abstract:

This article aimed to examine the bond between women and home space in feminist studies, which have a serious literature against the limitation of women's gender norms with their historical conditions. Within the framework of the study, the perspective of feminist care ethic, which claims that women's private sphere practices create a separate value and culture, and a critique of it are included. First of all, the feminist perspective's view of house and housework is mentioned. It has been seen that the private sphere is brought to the fore in establishing a sexual difference that makes women subordinate. Secondly, the views of the approach called care ethics on the concept of care, which women ascribe to their gender roles, are included. Finally, some questions opened by Joan Tronto, who problematized Carol Gilligan's approach to the ethics of care in terms of the risk of assuming a homogeneous femininity and masculinity, were examined. The care ethic approach, which relates the different functioning of the male and female psyches, the differences in women's cognitive structures and moral reasoning, with the experience of motherhood and home; It tries to understand/make sense of women on the basis of “relationship”. Accordingly, there is hope that some problems can be overcome by accepting the difference between men and women; The alternative perspective of feminist care ethics, which reminds the importance of relationality, connectedness, relativity and polysemy, allows to reinterpret both the ethical and feminist framework. However, this approach still has to deal with the criticism of the concept of care, which it prioritizes and values, that it may hinder the realization of women's individual autonomy. Insisting on presenting care as a theme of sexual difference has also been criticized for being insufficient to construct a strong ethical theory and guide political action.
