Abstract:

In recent years, digitalization has taken on a quality that covers almost every area of social life. This situation brings with it an increase in the number of academic studies on digitalization. In this study, academic studies on digitalization in the communication literature in Turkey were examined. The study deals with 283 articles on digitalization written in 44 communication journals published in Turkey between 2017-2021. Qualitative research design was used in the study, the data were obtained by archive scanning, and content analysis was applied to the obtained data. The distribution of the articles according to the years, according to the language of publication, according to the research theories, according to the topics and methods used was determined. In addition, the distribution of the article authors according to their titles, gender and number of authors, as well as the universities they are working in and the departments they are affiliated with, were examined. At the end of the study, it was seen that the most articles were written on digital games in Turkey, the qualitative method was used the most, and mainstream communication research was preferred as theory. In addition, it was concluded that the studies on digitalization increased significantly in 2021, the studies were mostly carried out by young academicians, and the studies on digitalization were mainly carried out in communication faculties.
