Şeyh Vasfi was a powerful poet of classical Turkish literature. He was a fluent poet who can write a poem in three languages. After his father's death, he became the sheik of an islamic monastery as the successor. Though he was an omniscient and a sheik of sufism, he did not write any sufistic poems in his work Cezebât. Regarding the debate of new-old, he took place with Muallim Naci. His poems and articles were published in Tercümân-ı Hakîkat, Saâdet and Mürüvvet newspapers. He had also poems with the pen name of Berkî. He had 12 works written in different subjects in his 59-year old life
