Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the roles brought by the parents of students by the COVID-19 pandemic process, and the duties and responsibilities of parents who are suitable for these roles, according to teachers' opinions. The research is designed as a phenomenological pattern, one of the qualitative research types. The research was carried out with 20 teachers working in primary and secondary schools in Eskişehir. Maximum diversity sampling technique, which is purposeful sampling method, was used while determining the participants. In the study, data were collected from teachers using semi-structured interview forms. The data of the research were collected in March-April 2021. The data were obtained from face-to-face interviews with volunteer participants in accordance with the interview method. Content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. In the study, the roles of the COVID-19 pandemic process for parents and teachers' views on the duties and responsibilities of parents suitable for these roles are in four themes: the role of the parent in the effectiveness of the distance education process, the role of the parent in the protection of student health, the role of the parent in establishing effective communication with teachers, and the role of the parent in meeting the psychosocial needs of the student. collected. As a result; It is understood that the COVID-19 pandemic process brings new roles to the parents of the students in addition to their current roles, and parents are expected to fulfill certain duties and responsibilities appropriate to these roles. Teachers have important responsibilities for parents to fulfill these roles and responsibilities. The fact that the effective execution of the education process depends on the support and active participation of the parents in the process has gained more importance during the COVID-19 pandemic process. For this reason, teachers' opinions on the roles brought by the COVID-19 pandemic process to the parents of the students and the duties and responsibilities appropriate to these roles can be an important source of data in ensuring the effectiveness of the education provided in this process.
