Abstract:

In this study, giving home care to the elderly family member; It is aimed to examine the effects on the family on institutional, individual and relational grounds within the framework of family theories. In line with the purpose of the study, qualitative research method was used and case study design was preferred. In-depth interviews were conducted with 19 caregiver family members using semi-structured and sociodemographic questionnaires, and observations were made with non-participant/natural observation technique. Coding was done using Maxqda Qualitative Data Analysis Program and descriptive analysis was carried out. As a result of the research; It has been revealed that single caregivers cannot establish a new family with the marriage union, the difficulties experienced by the caregiver family increase due to the lack of support of other family members in the care process, the children in the family are exposed to positive and negative effects, and the caregiver may experience a stuck between child and elderly care. On the other hand, it has been determined that there are relational problems arising from caregiving in families, that the communication of some family members is completely terminated, conflicts occur between spouses, and the relationship between the elderly and the caregiver is shaped depending on the caregiving process. Therefore, it has been concluded that caregiving transforms the family, creates differences in the family structure, causes the personality traits of individuals to change, and causes the relationship between family members to deteriorate or become stronger. Based on these points, it is thought that changes can be made in the content of the home care service model and in the professional practices carried out with home caregivers.
