Abstract:

In Turkish literature, especially since the 1960s, migration from the village to the city and the unplanned urbanization process and the problems created by this have come to the fore. The problem of urbanization is one of the most important issues that Mustafa Kutlu, who created her own unique story style after the eighties, which took its place in Turkish storytelling since the seventies, also focused on. Kutlu's short story books called Yokuşa Akan Sular (1979), Yoksulluk İçimizde (1981), Ya Tahammül Ya Sefer (1983), Bu Böyledir (1987), Sır (1990) are generally related to the modernization and urbanization process of Anatolian people, and the village-urban conflict. In this study, the story of "The Mürit", which is included in Kutlu's story book Sır, is discussed in the context of village-city conflict. In addition, the weakening of its bond with tradition with the transfer of the lodge-mysticism culture, which has an important place in this story, to the cities is conveyed. The loss of essence and degeneration of these dervish lodges over time has been evaluated through the symbolic elements in the story.
