The fact that all political world views are formed in the latter through the understanding of human nature clearly shows that political psychology has an old history as political. Political psychology as a well-defined interdisciplinary science appeared in the 1970s, but it can be found much older in terms of its origin, impact and influence. The field of Political Psychology of Knutson (Ed.) It became the focus of interest with the 1973 political psychology manual and the 1977 established International Political Psychology Society (ISPP) and two years later published Political Psychology magazine. The pioneers in the academic sense of the discipline with international focus are of European origin. This article, contrary to the widespread belief, aims to provide a new perspective on how its fundamental contribution to the political psychology discipline began with European writers in the 1860s. This article contains new findings about the historical course of political psychology and provides findings that the classifications of researchers such as McGuire (1993) on the historical development stages of political psychology can be re-examined.
The fact that all political worldviews are ultimately shaped by an understanding of human nature clearly shows that political psychology has a history as old as politics. Although political psychology as a well-defined interdisciplinary science emerged in the 1970s, its origin, redundant and influence can be traced back much further. In its recent history, the field of Political Psychology has become the focus of attention with Knutson’s (Ed.) handbook on political psychology in 1973, followed by the International Society for Political Psychology (ISPP) founded in 1977, and the journal Political Psychology published two years later. The academic pioneers of the discipline, which has an international focus, are of European origin. Contrary to popular belief, this article aims to provide a new perspective on the fact that the main contribution to the discipline of political psychology began with European writers in the 1860s. This article, which includes new findings on the historical phases of political psychology, presents findings researchers such as McGuire (1993), can reconsider the historical development stages of political psychology.
