Kent çalışmaları mimarlık, coğrafya, sosyoloji ve turizm gibi birçok disiplinin kendine özgü yaklaşımları ile ele alınmaktadır. Günümüz şehirlerinin gelişiminde üniversiteler önemli bir lokomotif güç olarak görülmektedir. Bu nedenle üniversite öğrencilerinin öğrenim gördüğü şehre yönelik görüş ve değerlendirmeleri önemlidir. Bir şehrin engellerini görmek, eksik yönlerini tamamlamak, olumsuz yönlerini düzeltmek ve problemlerini çözmek, her açıdan gelişmesine dolayısıyla kalkınmasına katkıda bulunmak için şehirsel mekânın anlaşılması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmanın konusunu Giresun şehrindeki üniversite öğrencilerinin şehre yönelik algıları oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada Giresun Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin Giresun şehri ve halkına yönelik algılarının ne yönde ve düzeyde olduğunu tespit etmek, açıklamak, değerlendirmek ve olası ilişkileri ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanmıştır. Genel tarama modelinde yapılan araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 1110 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada Giresun Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin algıları 2019 yılı Eylül-Aralık dönemleri arasında cinsiyet, gelir durumu, geldikleri şehir gibi değişkenlere göre incelenmiştir. Öğrencilerin Giresun şehrine yönelik genel algıları orta düzeyde olumlu bulunmuştur. Giresunlu olma, sınıf, öğrencinin yaşadığı yerleşme türü, aylık harcama miktarı gibi değişkenlere göre şehre yönelik algılarda anlamlı farklılıklar tespit edilmiştir. Belirlenen algılara yönelik Giresun şehrinin avantaj ve dezavantajları kentin planlayıcılarının ve karar vericilerinin dikkatine sunulmaktadır.
City studies are dealt with by its own unique approaches to many disciplines such as architecture, geography, sociology and tourism. In the development of today’s cities, universities are seen as an important locomotive power. Therefore, the views and evaluations of the university students towards the city where they study are important. It is necessary to see the obstacles of a city, to complete the missing aspects, to correct the negative aspects and to solve their problems, to contribute to its development and development in every way. The subject of this study creates the perceptions of the university students in the city. The study aims to identify, explain, evaluate and reveal the possible relationships in which the perceptions of the students of the University of Giresun towards the city and the people of Giresun are in the direction and level. The study was conducted by a group of 1110 students. In the study, the perceptions of students from the University of Giresun were studied by variables such as gender, income status, the city they come from between September and December 2019. The general perceptions of students towards the city of Giresun were found positive at the middle level. There are significant differences in the perceptions of the city according to variables such as being entrance, class, the type of settlement in which the student lives, the amount of monthly spending. The advantages and disadvantages of the City of Giresun towards the defined perceptions are presented to the attention of the city planners and decision makers.
Urban studies are conducted with the unique approaches of various disciplines such as architecture, geography, sociology, and tourism. Universities are perceived as crucial engines for the development of contemporary cities. Therefore, opinions and evaluations of university students about the city in which they study are essential. It is necessary to comprehend the urban space in order to realize the obstacles of a city, to compensate for its deficiencies, to correct its adverse aspects, to solve its problems, and to contribute to its development in every respect. The main subject of this study involves the perceptions of university students in Giresun towards the city. The study aims to determine, explain, and evaluate the extent to which the Giresun University students perceive the city of Giresun and its residents, and to reveal possible associations. The study group of the research conducted with the general survey model is comprised of 1110 students. In the study, the perceptions of Giresun University students are investigated according to the variables such as gender, income level, and the city of origin over the period between September and December 2019. The general perceptions of the students towards the city of Giresun are found to be moderately positive. According to the variables such as being a Giresun resident, social status, type of settlement in which the student resides, and the amount of monthly expenditure, significant differences are detected within the perceptions towards the city. The advantages and disadvantages of the city of Giresun regarding the determined perceptions are brought to the attention of the urban planners and decision-makers.
