Abstract:

Wall paintings and painted sculptures are an important kind of art that has been made by artists for centuries and has become an integral part of architecture. The art that the Ottoman artists accepted continued without interruption after the Republic. The grounds of the Old Cami village of Çaykaya in Ankara, taken into the scope of the study, belong to the Republic after. The wall paintings in the building and painted patterns, though belonging to the 1960s, are very similar to the examples of the late Ottoman era. Even the chosen themes are the continuation of the Ottoman painting tradition in the Republic period. This situation clearly proves that the popular artists did not break from the tradition after the Republic and continued the tradition. This work will not be presented only the wall paintings and paintings of the Old Cami of the Çaykaya Village. It will also be discussed about the belonging to the plants and will be presented views on the place within the public culture. Another subject of work is the protection issue. The absence of structures in the countryside of Anadolu, which belonged to the middle of the 20th century, in the status of historical work, causes many structures to be ignored and even destroyed. In Turkey, there is a “unprecedented” group of buildings. However, these architectural works are very important in terms of carrying the traces of public art. The Old Cami of Çaykaya Village is one of the buildings that has come to the edge of disappearance in terms of both architectural characteristics and wall paintings and paintings. This work will also focus on the protection of the Old Cami village of Çaykaya.
