INTRODUCTION: Eating attitudes and behaviors are affected by many factors such as genetics, environment, hormones, current emotional state of the individual, socio-demographic characteristics, past experiences, cultural and religious beliefs, media, body perception, obesity, appetite. When eating behavior is considered psychologically, it is observed that people are frequently exposed to emotions such as stress, tension, boredom, happiness, joy and excitement that they are frequently exposed to as a result of various events in daily life. This research is planned to determine the awareness of eating in adolescents. METHODS: Our study was planned in Tepecik Training and Research Hospital Child Health Clinic and was done after the approval of the local ethics committee of the hospital and the ethics committee of İzmir Provincial Directorate of National Education. The research was carried out between March 2019 and June 2019 by applying Eating Awareness Scale-30 (EAS-30) to high school children in Izmir. This scope of work; Students who are between the ages of 14-18 and who continue their high school education in İzmir province formed the study population. The determined sample was made by stratified simple random sampling method. Based on this method, the sample size calculated as 0.2 error margin, 0.80 power value, 95% confidence level was determined as 2401. As a data collection method, the Eating Awareness Scale (EAS-30) consisting of 30 questions put into Turkish by Köse et al. Was applied to students. RESULTS: A total of 2137 high school age students were included in the study. 42.7% of the students included in the study are 9th grade, 30.4% are 10th grade, 15% are 11th grade, 3.9% are 12th grade students. Female students constituted 56.7% of the study group. The highest average score was 15.99 ± 2.70 in the conscious nutrition subgroup. Since the sub-dimension scores did not conform to the normal distribution, the gender relationship with the subgroups was evaluated using the nonparametric test. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: As a result, although there are many studies on eating awareness on adults and the factors affecting this, there are few studies especially on adolescents about to go into adulthood. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature in this respect.
