Abstract:

Abstract Racism and other forms of prejudice, based on skin color and other phenotypic characteristics, are rooted in the history of the Brazilian people. It is possible to state that only laws and decrees do not change reality, and it is necessary to provide means for them to be legitimized in everyday life. This article describes a field research carried out in 2020 that aimed to identify, in the speeches of early childhood education teachers, how the education of ethnic-racial relations has been developed in their practices. In this perspective, the research was carried out in the municipality of Santa Mercedes in the interior of the State of São Paulo, in a basic education school that also attends kindergarten, but only with the teachers of children between four and five years old (Pré I and Pre II). The study made it possible to understand that the conceptions present in the legislation are not fully achieved in early childhood education. In order to provide an anti-racist education, there must be more and more investment in teacher training, initial and continuing, acquisition of materials and sensitive listening to children.
