The aim of this study was the development of training courses based on the principles and methods of critical thinking; students' learning level, metacognitive awareness and epistemological beliefs and to examine the effect on critical thinking disposition. In the quantitative stage, the pre-test and post-test half control group experimental design and was used, and student diaries were used for qualitative stage. For the operation, combination method is used, the aim was to consider the superior aspects of both methods to collect further data. The study was conducted in the course of "Teaching Principles and Methods" at Balikesir University, Faculty of Education, Department of Elementary Mathematics Education degree program In 2011- 2012 academic year, mathematics students have been identified as the subjects of the study. Students take this course in two classes. The first class was appointed as the study group (n = 37),while the other as of a control group (n = 38). In 14 weeks, the experimental group was applied critical thinking based teaching courses and in the traditional training course same conditions are maintained as of the control group. In the study, to collect of quantitative data of each group determination of the learning level test (LLT) was tested with collection of test, critical thinking tendency scale, (CCTDI), metacognitive awareness scale (MAS) and epistemological beliefs scale (EBS) pre-test and post-tests were applied. Dairys obtained from the experimental groups were used to collect qualitative data.
