Abstract:

This study aims to examine the resilience of parents who have children with special needs diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability in the special education class at primary and secondary school level in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and parents who have children with normal development at primary and secondary school level. In addition, within the scope of the research, the differences in terms of demographic variables (parents' income, employment status, gender and age) and resilience were also examined. The sample group of the study consists of 200 parents. Of the participants, 100 were parents of children with special needs and 100 were parents of children with normal development. The number of mother participants was 153 and the number of father participants was 47. Data collection tools were personal information form and adult resilience scale. SPSS 27 package program was used in the analysis of the data and it was seen that the normality assumption was met. Independent sample t test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used as parametric tests. According to the results of the study, it was seen that resilience scores were in favor of parents with normally developing children. The results did not show significant differences in terms of demographic variables (parents' income, employment status, gender and age) and resilience. Finally, the findings were discussed in the light of the literature, limitations were included and recommendations were made.
