Abstract:

The purpose of this study; was to detect the relationship between the placement scores of the entrants of the talent examination of Inonu University, Faculty Of Education, Department Of Fine Arts, Music Teaching Programme and their socio-demographic traits. The study has been carried out with 387 candidates who were applied to the entrance examinations. Entrants’ placement scores have been examined in terms of socio-demographic variables which are individual in quality, such as gender, the type of high school they graduated from, the place – region in which most of the entrants’ life time were spent, their parents’ educational level, families’ monthly income (entrants’ income was included too, if existed), families’ level of interest in music, the lenght of the preparation period for the examination and the way they prepared, the situation of having music education aside from the preparation period, and the instrument performed. The data obtained have been evaluated via Kruskal-Vallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, t-test, one way variance analysis (ANOVA) and Tukey test. At the end of the study, significance levels between the entrants’ placement scores and social variables have been interpreted.
