Bu çalışmanın konusunu, Samsun Müzesine kazı, satın alma ve müsadere yolu ile kazandırılmış 23 adet pişmiş toprak unguentarium oluşturmaktadır. Antik dünyanın önemli seramik gruplarından birini oluşturan unguentariumlar, içeriğinde bulunan kokulu yağlar, parfümler, merhemler vb. maddelerden dolayı günlük yaşam alanlarında sıklıkla kullanıldığı bilinmektedir. Sadece günlük kullanım alanlarıyla sınırlı kalmayan unguentariumlar kutsal alanlara sunu ve mezar hediyesi olarak farklı amaçlarla da kullanılmıştır. Unguentariumlar literatürde Fusiform (İğ Form) ve Bulbous (Torba Form) form olarak iki ayrı tipte tanınmaktadır. Samsun müzesi envanterinde Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerini kapsayan her iki form tipine ait eserler bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile iki form tipine ait unguentariumların biçim grupları, tipolojik gelişimi ve kronolojik dağılımı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
The subject of this study is 23 terracotta unguentariums brought to Samsun Museum through excavation, purchase and confiscation. Unguentariums, one of the important ceramic groups of the ancient world, contain scented oils, perfumes, ointments, etc. It is known that it is frequently used in daily life areas due to substances. Unguentariums, which are not only limited to daily use areas, have also been used for different purposes as offerings to sanctuaries and grave gifts. Unguentariums are recognized in two different types in the literature as Fusiform (Spindle Form) and Bulbous (Bag Form). In the inventory of the Samsun museum, there are artifacts belonging to both forms, covering the Hellenistic and Roman periods. In this study, shape groups, typological development and chronological distribution of unguentariums belonging to two form types were tried to be revealed.
