Abstract:

In recent years, the increase in the number of international students who want to obtain undergraduate and postgraduate education in the universities located in Turkey has revealed the need to pay attention to the academic Turkish teaching as a foreign language. In the process of acquiring the academic Turkish skills, the development of the academic speech skills of the learners should also be paid special attention because it is the most commonly used skills in the educational teaching environments. The teaching material most used in the development of students’ academic language skills is the curriculum books. Therefore, it is important that the curriculum books are in the capacity to support the development of the academic language skills of the learners. With this importance, the study felt the need to study the activities aimed at the speech skills included in the academic Turkish curriculum books as a foreign language. The aim of this need is to identify the speaking types and the speaking tasks involved in the academic Turkish curriculum activities prepared for international students in the research and to identify the academic speaking qualification aimed at obtaining with books. The work for this purpose is designed as a conditional work. The study included 7 academic Turkish lessons. The results of the data obtained by the document analysis in the curriculum books often contain tasks such as making explanations, making discussions, making presentations; these tasks are mostly made up of individual tasks and mostly obtained by the curriculum books "explain the thoughts of the target about an academic subject." It has been found to be sufficient. The results obtained from the study are believed to contribute to the process of preparation of the curriculum books and curriculum materials in the academic teaching of Turkish as a foreign language.
