Modernleşme ve beraberinde gerçekleşen sekülerleşme süreciyle ortaya çıkan köklü değişim ve farklılaşmalar sadece toplumsal siyasal ve ekonomik hayatı değil, bireylerin duygu düşünce yapısını ve yaşam biçimini de etkilemiştir. Akademik çalışmalarda, sanayileşmiş modern toplumlarda aklın (rasyonalist) bilimin ve bilimsel anlayışın egemen olduğu ifade edilmiş; seküler düşünme ve davranışlardaki artışa paralel olarak, dindarlık dini yaşam biçimi ve inanç bağlılıklarında değişim ve farklılaşmaların olduğu belirtilmiştir. Hatta klasik sekülerleşme teorisyenleri, sekülerleşme sürecinin sonunda dinin tamamen yok olacağını ya da sosyal hayat ve siyasetten uzaklaşarak vicdanlara çekileceğini savunmuştur. Bu araştırma ise, sekülerleşmenin ateist tutumlar üzerindeki etkisini sosyal psikolojik bakış açısıyla incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Nitel bir desene sahip olan bu makalede, yapılandırılmış (güdümlü) mülakat tekniği kullanılmıştır. Veriler, betimsel ve içerik analizi olmak üzere iki yol kullanılarak çözümlenmiş; anlayıcı geleneğe bağlı olarak yorumlanmıştır. Ulaşılan bulgularda ateist bireylerin sekülerleşmeyi çağdaş, modern, ileri görüşlü, içinde yaşadığı zamanla uyumlu, rasyonel ve bilimsel bakış açısına sahip olmak ve evrensel değerleri benimsemek anlamında algıladıkları görülmektedir. Çalışmanın bulguları, sekülerleşmenin ateist tutumu zorunlu olarak beslemediğini; ancak ateistlerin dini algılama, anlama ve yaşama biçimlerini etkileyerek bunlar üzerinde değişimler yarattığını ortaya koymaktadır. Bununla beraber, sekülerleşme ve ateist tutumlar arasında yakın bir ilişkinin olduğu saptanmış; söz konusu bu ilişkinin; düşünsel, kavramsal ve ahlâki temellerde benzerlik gösterdiği belirlenmiştir.
The radical changes and differences arising from the modernization and the process of secularization that occurs with them have influenced not only the social political and economic life, but also the emotional thinking structure and the way of life of individuals. Academic studies have stated that in industrialized modern societies the mind (rationalist) is the dominant of science and scientific understanding; parallel to the increase in secular thinking and behavior, religious life and belief liability have changed and differentiated. Even classical secularization theorists have argued that the religion will completely disappear at the end of the secularization process, or that it will be withdrawn to conscience by leaving from social life and politics. This study aims to examine the impact of secularization on atheist attitudes from a social psychological point of view. In this article, which has a qualitative design, a structured (guided) interview technique is used. The data is analyzed using two methods, the visual and the content analysis; it is interpreted according to the comprehensive tradition. The findings show that atheist individuals perceive secularization in the sense of having a contemporary, modern, advanced, harmonious, rational and scientific perspective and adopting universal values. The findings of the study show that secularization does not necessarily feed the atheist attitude, but that the atheists have created changes on them by influencing their religious perception, understanding and way of life. However, it has been established that there is a close relationship between secularization and atheist attitudes; it has been established that this relationship is similar in the mental, conceptual and moral foundations.

Even classical secularization theorists have argued that at the end of the secularization process, religion will be completely destroyed or withdrawn from social life and politics and drawn to mercy. A structured interview technique, which has a qualitative pattern, has been used in this study. Data has been analyzed using two methods; descriptive and content analysis, and it has been interpreted depending on tradition. It has been seen that atheist individuals perceive secularization as contemporary, modern, forward-thinking, harmonious with the times they live in to have a rational and scientific point of view and adopt universal values. The findings of the study indicate that secularization does not necessarily feed atheist attitude; however, it has deeply affected the atheists’ perception of religion, understanding, and way of life; and has created changes on them. However, it has been indicated that a close correlation between secularization and atheism have also similarities on intellectual, conceptual and moral bases.
