World’s energy need is increasing every day and majority of this energy need are met by fossil fuels. When current increment rates in energy need and predetermined fossil fuel reserves are taken into consideration, approximately within 50 years, it is expected that fossil fuels will come to depletion point. Considerable part of fossil fuels are used in vehicles and therefore in internal combustion engines, vehicles equipped with diesel engines and using diesel fuels are widely preferred in transportation sector. It is known that exhaust emissions emerging from combustion is creating various harms to environment. In this study, as an alternative fuel for diesel engines, canola oil’s methyl ester is used. In the experiments three percentages are tested under the same circumstances on a diesel motor. These are %100 biodiesel, %50 diesel+%50 biodiesel (fuel mixture), and %100 diesel. It is determined that diesel motors, without a significant revision need, are suitable for biodiesel and diesel mixtures as an alternative fuel and canola oil’s methyl ester gives positive results with respect to exhaust emissions.
