Abstract Urban spaces with public spaces they have, appear as spaces that contain human relations and equipments required by these relationships. Spaces with daily life, are constructed as where subjective and psychological processes of life pass, where perceptions and experiences turn into consciousness, where personality and memories shape by different meanings where people attach in. Spaces construct both public identity and identity of the city, and appear as reflections of civilizations. Historical city squares, are not just common areas, but also have political meanings in which governments convey their messages to societies over plans. The aim of this study is to examine Beyoğlu and Taksim Square, as a strong focal point by using an morphological analysis method Space Syntax, and reveal a research about how the structural changes affected street tracks in the square and Beyoğlu with the facts in the historical process. In this context, the relationship between the changes in Beyoğlu and Taksim Square are revealed with their historical break points till today and tried to understand how the events affected these spaces. In addition, establishing a relationship between changes in grid by plan revisions and the effects on the social structure and usage patterns with disconnections and integrations of streets, constitutes another backbone of this research. Before and after the Republic, plan revisions for Beyoğlu affected not only the physical structure, but also caused social and economic changes.
