Abstract:

Natural diathomite is widely used in membrane filter production because it has a high surface area. The working principles of these filters produced for water filtration are deep-bed and the filters are blocked over time and the filtering process stops. Recently, research has been carried out on the production of filters that can be cleaned with rewashing and provide long-term smoothing. In this study, the membrane filter produced by covering diathomite powder enriched on the silicone substrate, was tested in the filtering of the source water out of Kütahya-Türkmendağı. The average diameter of the curvels found in the resin water is 0.5 mm. The spray processes are performed under 5 bar pressure and the filtration is periodically applied. Here the spray periods are 5 minutes, and at the end of each process the filter is cleaned with rewashing. These tests have determined the filtering capacity of the filter and the clarity of the filtering water. The fluidity of the water filed by the membrane filter has decreased from the value of 2 NTU to the value of 0.1 NTU. At the same time, the filter provides high smoothing performance and provides 0.16 m3/m2 smoothing in each periodic process.
