Abstract:

Today, employees’ emotional skills have begun to play important roles for business efficiency and continuity as a capital element. The conceptual reward of these qualifications comes to us as a "emotional capital". In this study, it has been studied whether the emotional capital of teachers working in the private sector and the public sector is different according to their demographic characteristics. In the framework of the research, 168 of the government, 432 of the private sector, who teach in the province of Gaziantep of Turkey, have been surveyed with a total of 600 educators and the data obtained have been analyzed through the SPSS-23 program. The Emotional Capital Reserve was developed by Newman and Purse (2007) to measure the emotional capital of teachers, and reduced by Newman and his friends (2015) to 30 items. The study found that some of the emotional capital subdimensions differ significantly from demographic variables according to gender, age group, institution and position, but they did not differ significantly in terms of civil status, educational status, professional experience and income status.

The conceptual meaning of these competencies is evaluated as “Emotional Capital”. In this study, the topic that whether or not emotional capitals of teachers working in private sector and public sector differentiate according to demographic features were investigated. In context to the research, a survey was conducted in Gaziantep city of Turkey with 600 educator in total, 168 of them work in public sector and 432 work in private sector, and gathered data was analysed via SPSS-23 program. Emotional Capital Inventory developed by Newman and Purse (2007) and reduced to 30 items by Newman et al. (2015) was used to measure emotional capital. As the result of the study, some factors of emotional capital inventory differentiated in terms of gender, age group, establishment type and position variables; however any factor of emotional capital inventory did not differentiate in terms of marital status, educational status, professional experience and income level variables.
