It is known that obese individuals are more likely to have a higher risk of postural instability and fall than non-obese individuals. We aimed at evaluating the factors that contribute to postural stability, risk of fall and postural stability in patients with pregnancy preoperative bariatric. Tools and Methods: Our study included 38 patients with morbid obesity (body mass index (VKI) ≥40) and 52 non-obesity individuals (BMI <30) that were pre-evaluated by bariatric surgery. The participants’ postural stability index (PSI) and fall risk index (FRI) were evaluated using the Biodex stability system. The Fall Efficacy Scale-International (FES-I) was used to evaluate fall fear (FOF). The findings: 18 patients (47.4%) in the working group were households and sedanters. 15 patients (39.5%) were also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. There was no statistically significant difference between the FOF groups in terms of the existence of the fall history and the number of falls in the last one year (p:0.831, p:0.558, p:0.596 respectively). However, the FES-I and FRI scores were statistically significantly higher in the working group (p:0,006, p<0,001). A statistically significant positive correlation between FRI and weight, VKI, back and back circle was found (r:0.708, p<0.001; r:0.697, p<0.001; r:0.699, p<0.001; r:0.715, p<0.001 respectively). The result: Morbid obesity affects the FRI, which is an important dynamic stability indicator. We recommend the implementation of rehabilitation programs focused on dynamic tasks for bariatric pre- and post-chirurgical balance training in patients with malignant obesity. Keywords: Obesity; Body Mass Index; Morbid Obesity; Postural Stability; Risk of Fall.
