Abstract:

Domestic violence is a situation that threatens family members physically, emotionally, socially and economically. The widespread use of violence in the family also affects social life negatively. In particular, the fact that children witness violence or being exposed to domestic violence may cause them to be prone to violence in their future lives. Knowing children's rights is an important element in preventing violence against children and all individuals working with children should know children's rights. Based on this idea, the study aimed to examine the awareness of child development candidates towards domestic violence and their attitudes towards children's rights. 272 students studying at the Department of Child Development, Faculty of Health Sciences, Eurasia University participated in the study. In the study, "Personal Information Form", "Domestic Violence Awareness Scale" and "Attitude Scale towards Child Rights" were used as data collection tools. Frequency analysis, t-test, Anova and regression analysis were used in the analysis of the research data. In the study, it was concluded that most of the child development candidates received information about children's rights and family, and that the most important source of information was training / seminar. While the awareness levels of child development candidates towards domestic violence differ significantly according to the gender and age variable p .05 . Getting information about domestic violence positively affects the attitude towards children's rights. In addition, it was determined that as the scores obtained from the sub-dimensions of the definition of domestic violence, results of domestic violence, acceptance of domestic violence and normalization of domestic violence of the scale of domestic violence increased, attitude scores towards children's rights also increased. Suggestions were made based on the results of the research.
