Abstract:

The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of activities aimed at the development of reading habits on the attitudes of primary 5th grade students towards reading. For this purpose, the karma method is applied where quantum and qualitative methods are used together. Students studying at the 5th grade level in the study group have been selected two classes as a experiment and control group. The scale of attitude to read and the interview form was used in the collection of data. The data was collected through the preliminary tests and the final tests. Students’ opinions on the activities carried out after the application were taken. In the analysis of the data, the SPSS 22.0 package program was used. Before the analysis, the characteristics such as reliability and homogenity of the data were studied. Parametric tests are applied on the appropriate data. In the analysis of the data, content analysis was used. The research has shown that the attitude of students in the experiment group after the activity process increased in a positive direction compared to the previous activity, as expected. The study found that students who were in the control group after the activity process did not show a significant difference in their attitude to read books. It has been found that the variables show significant differences in the attitude of students to read. This study is expected to contribute to the students’ reading skills.
