Abstract:

Putting intertextuality on a theoretical ground enables the evaluation of literary texts from a multi-dimensional perspective. Different layers of meaning supporting the text appear because of the intertextuality that aims to interpret the relationship between the literary works and different texts or other branches of art. In the study called The Intertextual Interpretations of the Relationship between Music and Literature: Aşk-ı Muhabbet Sevda, the story book titled as Aşk-ı Muhabbet Sevda by Erhan Bener will be evaluated in terms of intertextuality. The reason why this book is considered appropriate to be evaluated in the context of relationship between music and literature is that it is rich in material. Erhan Bener's special interest in classical music is reflected in his works on this topic. In the book, which deals with human relations and psychological narratives mostly, the elements about the music are used frequently while forming the characters. Aşk-ı Muhabbet Sevda includes the following stories: Alabalık, Ne İmiş Aşk-ı Muhabbet, Sevda, Requiem, Bir Roman Kahramanı, Allegro Cantabile, Arabesk, Humoresque, Apollon, Zephyros ve Hyakinthos, Taşrada Gizli Aşk, Liebestote, Arkası Yarın, Aşk Yüzünden Cinayet, Hâlâ Kanayan, Cosi Fan Tutte. Among these stories including Alabalık, Ne İmiş Aşk-ı Muhabbet, Requiem, Allegro Cantabile, Arabesk, Humoresque, Liebestote and Cosi Fan Tutte, this relationship established through the intertextuality methods such as quoting, reference, and allusion between music and literature is observed. In the study, the elements about the music, the name of the works and the artists will be determined first, and then the intertextual methods they are used with will be determined. After this classification, the contribution of musical elements to the story in terms of content and the technique will be discussed.
