Abstract:

Abstract In this study, mathematics teaching enriched with educational games about seventh grade polygons; the aim of this study is to examine the effects of students' attitudes and opinions towards mathematics. For this purpose, a mixed research method, which includes both quantitative and qualitative research, was used. The sample of the research consists of 32 seventh grade students, 16 of whom are experimental and 16 of whom are control group, studying in a public school in Karapınar district of Konya province. As a result of the research, the attitudes of the students in the experimental-control groups were measured quantitatively, and the opinions of the students in the experimental group, whose mathematics lesson was enriched with educational games, were investigated in a qualitative way. The Mathematics Attitude Scale and Student Opinion Form were used as data collection tools in the study. When the data obtained were analyzed, no significant difference was found between the test scores of the pre-attitude and post-attitude test towards mathematics applied in the experimental group to which the educational games were applied and the control group in which the current teaching method was applied. From this point of view, it has been concluded that the educational game method in the teaching of mathematics achievements has no effect on the attitudes of the students. However, based on the interviews in the experimental group in which the educational games were applied, it was concluded that the students' interest in mathematics increased, and their fear of mathematics was replaced by a sense of self-confidence towards mathematics.
