The novel named al-Beydâ (White Woman) belongs to Yusuf İdrîs, who is a socialist realistic author and one of the prominent names of Arab literature. While the Arab society and the protagonists of Yusuf İdris's first literary products were the Arab women, the western woman started to take part in the Arab novel with the changes in time. In this novel, unlike the peasant and the poor Arab women, he handled and examined the western woman. In al-Beyda, western women were brought to the fore with more open and comfortable attitudes than Arab women in social and individual aspects. The western woman, who was presented more freely in everyday life, was neither restricted nor socially imposed by any rule.. Santi, the female protagonist of the novel, is married and Yahya Mustafa Taha, who is single, loves him very much. Santi was transferred to the reader through the eyes of the novel's (male) protagonist, Yahya Mustafa Taha. However, this protagonist was the representative of the sociological perspective of society in Egypt at that time. Yahya Mustafa Taha meets a large number of people from different backgrounds, both as a doctor and a journalist. This novel, which is analyzed periodically and culturally with Arab women, was first written in the summer of 1955, as the author has stated. While this study evaluates western women through the eyes of male heroes, it also tries to reflect the general perspective of society. In another respect, it aims to demonstrate the differentiation in terms of the social roles imposed on the European women and the Egyptian Arab women.
